So I have a G1. That’s right, the first google phone. Woo Whooo! I got it right when it came out and have had it over 2 years. Yep, that’s forever in the phone world and even longer in the Android world. Right now I’m on my third or fourth G1, with problems ranging from cracked screens to faulty microphones. But I’m hooked. It was my first smartphone and I love all the apps. As of today with more than 2 years into the phone its battery (2nd one) won’t charge fully even if I totally drain the phone until it shuts down. It has random freezes and while using the GPS for a road trip I can also use it to make a grilled cheese sandwich. Sometimes it refuses to send or receive text messages. It’s most definitely time for an upgrade. But I want everything in my new phone: 4G speeds, a nice metal case, large (4-inch or bigger) screen, dual core, Gingerbread, and a camera that does full HD video and an LED flash. So I keep waiting. Since deciding that I need a new phone, first came the G2, but alas it has a slow processor.
Then the Nexus S--wait, no 4G and virtually useless NFC? Why do I want this phone? Oh yeah, Gingerbread, but no expandable memory slots. So I continue to wait. Here comes the MyTouch 4G: no Gingerbread but 4g and a nice flash camera, but only 720p video. It does have a nice metal back though. Or wait, the Galaxy S 4G, except no flash. Damn I can’t wait anymore, my phone is ready to croak and I want to sign my life away on a new 2 year contract. Maybe I should switch services to get what I want. Maybe go to the darkside and get an iPhone? Now on the horizon it’s the Galaxy S II riding in to save the day! Woo! It hasn’t been announced by any US carriers yet. But hope springs eternal and my wait does as well. This phone appears to have everything I’m looking for: Metal Case, 4-inch display, 4G speed, 1080p video, a LED flash, Gingerbread, dual core, even NFC. I can’t wait.
